Notes: Cutting costs is Job #1 in this economy. Readers and attendees of past sessions have asked me to cut costs, make it easier to attend, etc. To cut costs, I'm doing several things. First, I'm asking attendees to bring their own laptops that meet the required hardware criteria for a particular class. Second, while attendees liked the more personal, smaller classes, they almost universally would rather have training cost less and don't mind large classes if that helps lower costs. Third, the training kits I print up while nice aren't worth the extra costs; they'd rather just bring my book or books on the subject the class covers themselves. Fourth, we don't need catering; get rid of it. My response: done and done and done and done.
Attendees will need to bring their own laptops from now on. Minimum specs: 64-bit capable laptop with dual core processor, and 2 GB RAM. Laptops to arrive installed with operating system and software required for class, as listed below. Trial versions and/or from TechNet membership will get you through. I've increased class size to Unlimited, with a minimum size of 12. These changes allow me to reduce costs substantially.

William R. Stanek (williamstanek@aol.com) has over 20 years of hands-on experience with advanced programming and development. He is a leading technology expert and an award-winning author. Over the years, his practical advice has helped millions of programmers, developers and network engineers all over the world. He has written over 50 computer books, which are sold all over the world and there are more than 3 million copies of his books in print. Current or forthcoming books include Windows Server 2008 Inside Out, Windows Command-Line Administrator's Pocket Consultant 2nd Edition, Exchange Server 2010 Administrator's Pocket Consultant, Windows Server 2008 Administrator's Pocket Consultant 2nd Edition, Windows 7 Administrator's Pocket Consultant and IIS 7.0 Administrator's Pocket Consultant.
William has an MS in Information Systems degree with distinction and a BS Computer Science degree magna cum laude. He is proud to have served in the Persian Gulf War as a combat crewmember on an electronic warfare aircraft. He flew on numerous combat missions into Iraq and was awarded nine medals for his wartime service, including one of the United States of America's highest flying honors, the Air Force Distinguished Flying Cross. Currently, he resides in the Pacific Northwest with his wife and children.
What do I offer other instructors don't? My style is non-traditional. Some would call it--gasp--unorthodox; I prefer to think of it more as nonconformist. And, it's the same style I've been using ever since I started instructing. Trust me, you'll have fun, be challenged and learn.
Why attend? I'm one of the few instructors who is an expert in Windows, Active Directory, Group Policy, SQL Server, Exchange Server, PowerShell and IIS. The many books I've written on these subjects and subjects like scripting and command-line administration, provide a unique learning opportunity.
Why Olympia, Lacey, or Tacoma? All my training courses and seminars are currently conducted in Washington. The beautiful city of Olympia and its sister city Lacey are located in the South Puget Sound. A quick 20 - 45-minute drive from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and an hour and a half from Portland, Oregon. Having a central training location lets me teach a wider variety of courses than I otherwise would be able to if I was always traveling. So why not escape the traffic and come to South Puget Sound? Hotel costs are lower; there's little traffic; many dining choices are close to training; and the overall experience is first-rate. I think you'll find my training seminars are a new and refreshing change of pace.
Why did you move most of the training to Lacey, Olympia, or Tacoma? Primarily because of better prices for attendees, more catering options, and more conference options. I was able to ensure good rates for rooms (about $60/night on average), plus there's free or low-cost shuttle service to the airport -- all together that saves you $200 - $300 on hotel and travel expenses. Plus with the additional catering and conference options, I can do more and, I hope, make the overall experience better.
